Konya, the city of Rumi and the whirling dervishes, is the closest major city west of Cappadocia and a natural stop on the way to Pamukkale or the Mediterranean coast. The drive from Göreme is about 230 km and takes around 3 hours.
A private transfer takes you from your hotel to Konya's Mevlana Museum, the high-speed train station or any hotel in the city, with a driver who knows the road and the stops along it.
Many guests use this transfer to connect with the YHT high-speed train from Konya to Istanbul or Ankara, which is faster and cheaper than flying from Kayseri.

The route
From Göreme the road heads west past Nevşehir to Aksaray, then follows the old Silk Road route across the steppe to Konya. About 40 km after Aksaray you pass Sultanhanı, the best-preserved Seljuk caravanserai in Turkey, where a 30-minute stop is worthwhile.
The road is a modern dual carriageway for most of the way, and driving time is about 3 hours without stops.
On the way
- Sultanhanı Caravanserai, built in 1229 for Silk Road traders (optional stop)
- Ihlara Valley and Selime Monastery, a short detour near Aksaray (optional)
- Konya's Mevlana Museum and the Alaeddin Hill old town
- Konya YHT high-speed rail station for trains to Istanbul and Ankara
